The Installation key and secret

Every installation has a unique key and secret. Together, they are the credentials that let the Metrion plugin on your shop authenticate with this specific installation.

What each is

  • Installation key. A public-style identifier that says “this is which installation the plugin belongs to.”

  • Installation secret. A private credential that proves the plugin is allowed to send data to this installation. Treat the secret like a password.

You need both values when configuring the Metrion plugin on your shop. Without the secret, the plugin will not be authenticated.

Where to find them
Tracking → Installations → click an installation → Generic section. The Installation key is shown in plain text with a Copy button. The Installation secret is masked behind a lock icon by default; click the lock to reveal it, or use the Copy button to put the value on your clipboard without showing it on screen.

Using them

  1. Copy the Installation key from the installation’s Generic section.

  2. Open the Metrion plugin’s configuration screen on your shop.

  3. Paste the key into the plugin’s “Installation key” field.

  4. Copy the Installation secret.

  5. Paste it into the plugin’s “Installation secret” field.

  6. Save the plugin configuration. The plugin will start sending events to Metrion.

Security
Don’t share the secret in chat, email, or screenshots without redacting it first. If you suspect it’s been exposed, contact support to rotate it. The key itself is less sensitive but still tied uniquely to your installation.
